HVCA looks to a single organisation for mechanical and electrical contractors

Following consultation with members, the council of the Heating & Ventilating Contractors’ Association has pledged its support to the development of a single organisation to represent mechanical and electrical contractors — brought about by the convergence of the HVCA and the Electrical Contractors’ Association. Members of both associations were urged to record their views on two key issues. First, they were asked to offer their support for the concept of convergence — the creation of a single organisation to represent mechanical and electrical contractors. Secondly, they were invited to support the formation by ECA and HVCA of a group that would examine the views already expressed by members and produce a model for a single organisation on which the ECA and HVCA memberships could in due course be consulted. The survey was undertaken by independent research consultancy Metra Martech. It showed that 81% of HVCA respondents, representing 20% of the membership, believe that convergence would be broadly beneficial, while 84% support the formation of a Joint ECA/HVCA convergence group. The results of the ECA survey are due on 23 April.
