BSRIA recruited to improve project performance

BSRIA has won a £208 000 contract to help achieve best-practice levels of health and safety, quality and productivity performance of the Arts Quarter construction project in Chelmsford. Property developer Countryside Properties is redeveloping the existing Anglia Polytechnic University Central Campus into a mixed-used commercial, residential and arts quarter. This 3-phase scheme has a total construction value of £106 million and is expected to be completed by the end of 2010. BSRIA’s appointment includes helping select the construction team, helping to clearly communicate client expectations to project personnel, assisting with process and product innovation and produce key lessons learned through the monitoring of site activity. The appointment also involves delivering the ‘Moving forward’ interactive training course to site personnel and management. This appointment is similar to successful work for the Royal Bank of Scotland project at Gogarburn — but with extended scope of involvement. At Gogarburn, BSRIA helped reduce overall construction delays by a third compared with the national average and achieving a superb health-and-safety record. There has been only one reportable injury for 4 million man hours work, which is 20 times better than the national average.
