Weatherite upgrades services for Waitrose

Weatherite has replaced the heating/ventilation system at Waitrose in Frimley as part of a national programme of upgrading Waitrose stores by the John Lewis Partnership. The contract was won following the recent completion of the John Lewis programme for replacing R22 and the success of Weatherite Manufacturing in supplying energy-efficient air-handling units to Waitrose.

Weatherite designed the system with John Lewis’s nominated consultant, PSH Consulting. Two AHUs were supplied and installed, together with ducting, fan units, wiring and a new control and electrical power panel.

New design features for Waitrose include a return-air system above the dry-goods area to induce air movement across the store, improve comfort and increase energy efficiency. Existing fans in the ceiling voids were moved and new temperature sensors installed to give better temperature control across the dry-goods zone.

Entrance-door heaters were replaced with high-efficiency models to reduce draughts in the checkout area.

The work had to be carried out between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. when the store was closed.
