Trox Academy introduces new topics

Trox academy
Lively discussion was promoted by a new session at the Trox Academy on carbon dioxide as a secondary refrigerant.

The application of carbon dioxide as a secondary refrigerant is now being presented as a topic by the Trox Academy at Thetford. Another recently introduced topic is the calculation of energy savings for VAV fan-coil units using CIBSE-approved software.

The use of CO2 covers the improved efficiency and resilience gained by using high-capacity magnetic hermetic pumps, data-centre cooling using DC motors to improve power factor and overall fan efficiency and changes to the thermal dynamics of blade-server cabinets to increase the removal of heat.

The potential for VAV fan coils to reduce electricity consumption compared with conventional fan-coil systems is another new topic.

Sessions at the Trox Academy are followed by a visit to the laboratory where the actual system is demonstrated and tested, usually in a specially created mock-up area.

For details of future sessions in the Trox Academy, contact Terry Farthing (tfarthing@troxuk.co.uk).
