TRV inserts in care home replaced without draining the heating system

Making possible the replacement of inserts in Oventrop TRVs without draining down the heating system is the company’s Demo-Bloc tool.

Using Oventrop’s Demo-Bloc tool has enabled the valve inserts of TRVs and lockshield valves that had been installed on the wrong end of radiators in a care home to be replaced without draining down the heating system.

It was during the refurbishment of the heating system in this care home that the contractor incorrectly identified unmarked flow and return pipes to radiators. When Oventrop AV6 TRV/lockshield combinations were installed on Autron LST radiator,s half the 50 TRVs were wrongly fitted on the return end of the radiators.

Although the system worked, the flow to radiators with TRVs on the wrong end was seriously reduced and there was considerable water hammer.

It was some two years later that the problem was identified as part of a new proposal. Autron discussed the problem with Oventrop, and the Demo-Bloc solution for changing the internal configuration of the valves without draining the system was recommended.

Replacing the inserts on one radiator cured water hammer in that radiator, so the rest of the inserts were replaced.

Autron has subsequently used Demo-Bloc on other installations with wrong connection and where TRVs were damage by debris in the system.
