Direct water heaters deliver 20% energy savings

Rinnai Infinity water heaters are reducing costs and delivering continuous supplies of hot water at constant preset temperatures at a holiday park in Somerset.
Energy savings of nearly 20% in the provision of hot water for a holiday park in Somerset have been achieved following the installation of Rinnai Infinity continuous-flow water heaters to replace a 12-year-old storage system. The facilities at Warren Farm Holiday Park need to cope with the requirements of up to a thousand guests for washing up, showering and laundry. Park owner Jon Harris says, ‘The old storage system simply wasn’t keeping up with demand, leaving some of our guests with cold showers and limited hot water for washing up or laundry at peak times.’ Four Infinity water heaters have been installed in each of the men’s and ladies’ shower blocks. They are run on LPG and linked in a manifold arrangement to cope with intensive demand. A total flow rate of 208 l/min serves 17 showers simultaneously at a predetermined maximum temperature — regardless of how many outlets are in use. These heaters were installed in the roof space to ensure short pipe runs to the showers. The old boiler room has been used as part of an expanded laundry room with two Infinity heaters to serve three washing machines and nine sinks. Water temperature in the shower blocks is set at 40°C to prevent scalding and eliminate the need for mixer valves. In the laundry and washing-up area, the supply is pre-set at 50°C. The park is planning to refurbish four of its existing shower blocks and build another by 2007. It plans ot use Infinity systems again.
