Pearl of a boiler for oyster hatchery

To provide a better breeding environment for oysters at this hatchery in Kent, Keston has supplied a wall-mounted boiler fuelled by LPG.

The production of oysters from the Old Roman Oyster Beds at Reculver, Herne Bay, is expected to increase output. Each female oyster can produce 20 to 80 million ‘eggs’. When they are three months old they are sent to oyster farms and are ready for the plate. Keston has supplied a C55 wall-mounted LPG condensing boiler to help provide the optimum breeding environment. It replaces an old inefficient boiler system which had its own plant room. The hatchery requires a constant 30°C, and the new boiler tops up the heat exchangers with the additional heat required. It also services six radiators in offices and corridors. The small-diameter flue can extend up to 45 m vertically or horizontally. One of the deciding factors was the small space required for installation.
