Biomass boiler in school will be carbon neutral

Locally sourced biomass will fuel a new heating boiler in a Cheshire school to provided heating and domestic hot water. The 50 kW Talbott boiler at Kingsmead Primary School burns processed wood pellets, and the aim is to move to locally produced wood chips later. Burning locally produced wood is carbon neutral, and no soot is produced. The ash is typically less than 1% and is a valuable fertiliser. The boiler is over 80% efficient and has full modulating capacity to respond to varying load. A 10 m3 fuel bunker offers flexible fuel loading using the integrated bunker-fill vacuum or inlet for blower delivery vehicle. The project is part of Cheshire County Council’s programme of reducing carbon emissions and implementing renewable energy.
