Lighting upgrade reduces costs at petrol station
A lighting upgrade for a petrol station in Falkirk supported by a Carbon Trust loan is saving £3000 a year on energy consumption and maintenance. Chalmor designed the lighting upgrade for the Cowden Bonnybridge petrol station, which involved replacing 450 W high-pressure sodium lamps in the forecourt area with long-life (60 000 h) 150 W Endurance fittings. In addition, inefficient T12 fluorescent lighting in the shop and showroom has been upgraded to T5 fluorescent lighting using Chalmor’s EasiFit retrofit solution.
The 69% reduction in installed load was to the key to qualifying for the Carbon Trust interest-free loan.
The new canopy lighting can respond quickly to changes in daylight levels, unlike the previous lighting that was on all the time because the lamps took a long time to strike. Maintenance costs in all areas are much reduced by the longer lamp life.
The 600 mm-square Endurance fittings installed have the potential to reduce energy use by 75% and achieve a 10-year lamp life.
EasiFit T5 retrofit solutions can upgrade existing fittings using T8 or T12 lamps. They take less than five minutes to install and include T5 lamp, connectors with integral electronic control gear and a bridge to replace the starter and bypass the old gear.
