Ormandy hits 100 during major MoD project
The hundredth prefabricated plant room for the Ministry of Defence’s largest-ever PFI project to create modern living and working accommodation for the British Army has been installed by Ormandy. Specified by Aspire Capital Works, the plant rooms contain LTHW and DHW equipment and, in some cases, services such as rainwater harvesting, CHP and solar technology.
The need for rapid, but bespoke, manufacture and installation of hot-water plant, meant that plant made off site was ideally suited for this project. Ormandy worked closely with Aspire Defence Capital Works (which specified the plant rooms) and other suppliers to design a fully tailored system that could easily be integrated into the building with minimal impact on the build programme. The plant room was supplied to M&E contractors Carillion PME and ISG Pearce.
After assembly in the factory, plant rooms are generally broken down into three elements for shipment and reconnection on site. Plug-and-play wiring makes it simpler and quicker to reassemble a plant room — so they can be delivered, lifted into position on site and reconnected electrically and mechanically in less than a day.
