Flamebar fire-rated ductwork chosen for London Cancer Clinic
Flamebar’s BW11 fire-rated ductwork system has been chosen for the new £35.2 million London Cancer Clinic in Harley Street. It will be one of the most advanced cancer research and treatment centres in Europe.
To help cope with the limited storage space available on the site, the ductwork was delivered in modules — thus dividing complex elements into manageable sections. This arrangement also reduces costs and improves site safety.
Flamebar BW11 is made from galvanised sheet steel, sprayed with a 1 mm-thick water-based fire-protective compound which contains mineral filters in a low-permeability elastomeric binder. Its design of low density and high durability enables it to accommodate induced stress arising from extreme conditions such as thermal shock during a fire.
The system has been tested for international use, under cellulosic fire conditions, to give in excess of four hours’ fire resistance.
