R22 replacement uses existing pipework and wiring

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Europe, R22 replacement
Out with R22, in with R410A — this MHIE system serving a restaurant kitchen in London used existing pipework and wiring.

Rather than repair its 5-year-old R22 air-conditioning system serving its kitchen, the Mugen Japanese restaurant in the City of London replaced it with a new R410A inverter split system from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Europe. This system enables existing pipework and wiring to be reused, minimising cost and disruption.

When the kitchen’s existing air-conditioning system broke down, the restaurant’s owner called in air-conditioning specialist Melba Refrigeration. Managing director David Barreto, put forward the benefits of a new, fully warranted replacement system from MHIE. ‘By installing modern, more reliable and energy-efficient equipment, the restaurant can reduce its maintenance liability and operating costs.’

Melba installed an FD Series split system source through distributor FM Air Conditioning. The outdoor unit is in the loading bay behind the restaurant and is connected to a 4-way cassette.

The inverter-controlled compressor and efficient heat exchanger contribute to a COP of 3.71.
