Solar energy reduces electricity bills by a third

Photon Energy, Solar PV
Electricity bills of all-electric affordable housing in Huddersfield have been reduced by a third following the installation of solar photo-voltaic panels by Photon Energy.

The installation of solar photo-voltaic panels on affordable homes in Huddersfield has proved even more energy efficient than Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing and supplier Photon Energy expected.

Not only have the residents benefited from the production of solar electricity on site, but they have also become more economical in their use of electricity.

The panels have been installed on 30 all-electric bungalows and flats for older people at Fernside Estate in the Almondbury area of Huddersfield.

Photon Energy asked Yorkshire Electricity to conduct a network analysis of the local grid to ensure that the solar PV systems would not cause technical problems with the electricity supply.

Each of the 30 systems has an output of 1.3 kW and is expected to generate over 1 MWh of electricity a year, amounting to over a third of electricity usage of the residents. Annual savings are £130 and 560 kg of CO2.
