South Birmingham College building for the future

Europe’s largest and further-education development dedicated to training and education in construction is now open in Birmingham. The South Birmingham College Centre for the Built Environment represents the biggest-ever investment in skill development for the region’s construction industry. The building covers 13 200 m2 on a brownfield site in Bordesley Green. It has been built in response to incredible growth in housing and commercial development in the city and region since the 1990s, leading to more people wanting to enrol on construction courses and overwhelming current facilities. The centre incorporates 11 starter business units let at an affordable rent to students from the centre wanting to start up their own business.

Yorkshire and Humber leaders set out plans to tackle skills shortages

Leaders from across Yorkshire and the Humber came together on Friday 11th September to launch ambitious plans aimed at tackling the region’s growing construction skills shortages.

Six in 10 UK businesses look to adapt operations in response to extreme heat

According to the Q2 Barclays Business Prosperity Index, six in 10 businesses surveyed (60%) have either increased investment to adapt to extreme heat (37%) or are considering doing so (23%).
