Fulton introduces modulating burner for steam boilers

The efficiency of Fulton steam boilers can be improved with the addition of a modulating burner.

Fulton has introduced a modulating burner for its steam raising boilers to reduce gas consumption and maintain a more constant steam pressure. Based on the existing on/off burner, the modulating burner uses a burner-management system to operate two modulating actuators; there are no links. One actuator regulates the flow of gas, and the other adjusts air flow to ensure that optimum combustion is maintained across the full firing range.

Each valve can be adjusted by as little as 0.1°, allowing small adjustments to be made to the burner output.

The modulating burner is an option for all Fulton’s gas-fired vertical boilers, including the J Series and VMP multi-port tubeless steam boiler. It can be retrofitted to existing boilers.

Initial results from a 3-month trial at Cardiff University comparing two 60J boilers, one with a standard on/off burner and the other with a modulating burner, indicate a significant reduction in gas consumption, with further savings in electricity costs.
