Liquid biofuel reduces carbon emissions from urban village

Atlantic Boilers, biofuel
The heating plant for this residential development near Chiswick includes Atlantic Boilers that can burn liquid biofuel.

Lower-carbon heating for a residential development of over 450 homes is provide with the help of boilers that can burn liquid biofuel. The development has achieved an EWCO Homes ‘very good’ rating. Factory Quarter near Chiswick comprises 104 apartments for affordable rent, 185 for shared ownership and 165 for private sale.

Atlantic Boilers supplied two 500 kW dual-fuel B100 biofuel and natural gas, which lead four 930 kW natural-gas boilers. The control system will ensure that the dual-fuel boilers will meet over half the heating load.

B100 is a modified vegetable oil, with one form of ester transformed to another that is more suitable for boilers. Feedstocks can be virgin vegetable oil, used fryer oil, animal fats and pond algae — all of which produce a similar biofuel end product.
