Purmo focuses on research verifying radiator performance at lower temperatures
Purmo is promoting its radiators on the back of tests carried out by the Helsinki University of Technology that showed that radiators perform well at lower temperatures to heat rooms without creating stratification. The research also showed that home occupants appreciated the silent operation of radiators while feeling perfectly comfortable in terms of heat emitted, even at lower system temperatures. The body sense radiant heat from surfaces above 30°C, giving ample scope for running a system at lower temperatures than traditional systems, even in cold weather.
Lower radiator temperatures also avoid the possibility of ‘dust burn’, where airborne dust coming into contact with the hot surface of a heat emitter dries out and burns the dust to produce a musty smell.
Purmo argues that these factors together explain why the radiator should be the first choice of heat emitter in both new and refurbishment projects, no matter what the heat source selected.
