Kent school adopts underfloor heating

Pre-commissioning of manifold assemblies for a large Robbens underfloor heating system in this school in Kent has reduced installation time.
Speedy installation of an underfloor heating system in the canteen building of a girls’ school in Kent was made possible by the assembling and pre-commissioning of manifolds at the Robbens factory. Because the return-pressure settings had already been made at the factory, the system could be installed quickly. The canteen building at the Weald of Kent Grammar School for Girls is designed for versatility. Two storeys provide a galleried dining hall, classrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, toilets and changing facilities. Upstairs, there is provision for an office, a sixth-form study and a careers-guidance suite. Robbens underfloor heating systems have been installed throughout the building, serving an area of 650 m2. There is a solid floor at both levels, and a special 20 mm version of Robbens’s multi-layer pipe was selected to ensure a good supply of warm water in the large floor areas — the largest has 13 loops.
