Three Inviron divisions deliver energy-efficient warehouse

Virtually all warehouse systems in a new 16 000 m2 temperature-controlled pharmaceutical warehouse for UDG in Mansfield as a turnkey solution by Inviron are designed to be low maintenance and energy efficient. Dick Plummer of the Ipswich office of Inviron Building Systems says, ‘What is particularly satisfying is how our businesses have developed a range of technical solutions, right across the spectrum of building-services disciplines, to meet the rigourous operational and engineering requirements demanded.’ Services designed and installed by Inviron are lighting, air distribution, high-velocity heating/ cooling, temperature monitoring, fire-detection systems, incoming power and standby supplies. The energy-efficient lighting system incorporates fluorescent tubes controlled by passive infra-red detectors. There is a Pilot lighting scheme within the installation, as the building has no natural light. The indoor climate is maintained through an air-distribution system, installed and commissioned by Inviron Climate Systems. Six air-handling units mounted on a plant deck at high level direct air through three main ducts around the three portal frames of the building. The building specifications stipulate that conditioned air must not deviate by more than 2 K from leaving the high-level system to reaching floor level. Inviron Open Systems carried out control wiring of the mechanical services and installed temperature-monitoring systems in the warehouse and ‘cold-box’ area. For optimum maintainability, the fire-detection system uses an optical air-sampling system with pipe-fed sampling units mounted at ground level. The fire- sprinkler system , with outlets at three levels and within the roof void, was installed by Atlas Fire. Dick Plummer concludes, ‘Liaison across the three Inviron businesses was excellent and under the direction of the client’s projects manager David Clarke & Associates has ensured successful delivery of this complex and technically demanding project was achieved from concept planning through to final commissioning.’
