LPG water heating meets dairy farm’s how-water requirements

Rinnai, water heater, DHW
Hot water on demand for a dairy farm in Ireland is provided by Rinnai continuous-flow water heaters served by Calor LPG.

To support the upgrading of the milking shed at Kilmurry Lodge dairy farm in Cork, Ireland, Rinnai continuous-flow water heaters fueled by LPG have been installed. The milking sheds now have 35 units compared to the previous 10 and can milk 220 cows an hour. The Rinnai water-heating installation replaces an electric system and can provide 600 l a day at 85°C to manage hygiene in the dairy and control the total bacteria count in the milk. Hot water is also needed for washing milk lines as well as the bulk milk storage tank.

Farmer James Walsh, a Calor customer, had previously visited a similar operation in New Zealand which relied on LPG-fired continuous-flow hot-water heaters and was impressed by its efficiency.

Milking-equipment specialist De Leval subsequently recommended four Calor-powered Infinity Rinnai water heaters, each rated at 69 kW.
