Safety beyond the ladder

Bilco, access hatch
Additional safety when passing through an access hatch from a fixed ladder is provided by this telescopic safety post from Bilco that can be added to most ladders.

In response to figures from the Health & Safety Executive about falls form ladders, Bilco has highlighted the safety benefit of its LadderUp safety Post that can be fixed to the top two rungs of any fixed ladder to provide a third point of contact for access through roof hatches, floor doors and manholes.

James Fisher, general manager of Bilco UK, says, ‘In many cases, operatives are obliged to go down to two points of contact with the ladder, although we know that three points of contact is desirable at all times. In many cases, this potential hazard at the top of the ladder does not allow three points of contact — the handholds are simply not there.’

The LadderUp Safety Post solves this problem by being fixed to the top two rungs of any ladder. It is telescopic, so it can be retracted to enable a hatch or floor door to be closed.

These safety posts can be retrofitted to virtually any application and are covered by a 10-year warranty.
