Interserve starts work on radiotherapy centre

Interserve
Led by Interserve, work starts on a £25 million radiotherapy centre at Colchester General Hospital.

Interserve is to deliver a £25 million radiotherapy centre at Colchester General Hospital as part of a ProCure21+ scheme. It will replace the current radiotherapy centre at Essex County Hospital and incorporate five ‘bunkers’.

This new centre will be the single biggest capital investment in the Health Service in Colchester since Colchester General Hospital was built in the mid-1980s.

Initially, three linear accelerators, the specialist equipment used during radiotherapy treatment, will be installed. The other two bunkers will be fitted out later as demand rises.

The build will be managed by Interserve’s Cambridge office, supported by Arup Services & Structural Design, Gleeds Cost Management and Interserve Engineering Services, which will provide the complex M&E services. The building for the new centre is expected to be completed before the end of 2013 and will start treating patients early in 2014.
