AHUs are designed to save cost and energy

Flakt Woods, air handling unit, AHU

The eQ Prime range of air-handling units from Flakt Woods is designed to reduce capital costs and optimise energy savings. Available in eight sizes with airflows from 0.4 to 6 m3/s, these units are compact and fully controllable.

Energy-efficient permanent-magnet motors contribute to reducing specific fan power and, possibly, the overall size of the unit.

Another new component is the Semco energy-recovery wheel with high levels of moisture transfer and thermal efficiency to help reduce boiler and chiller loads.

Units also have Class F7 supply/extract features.

Other features include an energy-monitoring system, energy-saving night cooling mode, temperature regulation and cooling recovery. Other functions include constant air volume fan-flow control, filter monitoring and external fire alarm.

The handheld IP65 control panel is simple to use and has a magnetic backing so it can be attached to the casing of the air-handling unit.

Units are delivered in a single base frame that can be separated into three parts if necessary. The cased coils are under positive pressure to remove any condensation. Cased coils also reduce much of the installation work involved in supporting, connecting and insulating ductwork components.

Units can be delivered assembled or in a series of easily assembled blocks. Flakt Woods also takes care of commissioning and initial start-up procedure.

These AHUs can be monitored online using eQ Smart Web to check the health, readiness and performance of a unit on a daily basis.

Accessories include adjustable feet for the base frame, VAV pressure control and a time for extended or forced operation. Additional facade and room sensors for night cooling or heating are also available — as is a CO2 sensor, PIR movement detector and zone control. A separate smoke detector and fire damper with accompanying control unit can be added.

New procurement rules for NHS suppliers

New procurement rules mean NHS suppliers will need to demonstrate their green credentials so the NHS can achieve its target of becoming net zero for directly-controlled emissions by 2040, with an ambition to reach an 80% reduction in its carbon emissions between 2028 to 2032.
