Controlled lighting supports research into confectionery
Riegens Lighting has supplied luminaires from its Cirrus range equipped with DALI control gear for Nestlé’s extended product technology centre in York. Illusion luminaires, also with DALI control gear, have been used in refurbished offices.
Opened by Environment Minister David, the extended R&D facility further enhances the role of the York facility as a global centre of excellence in confectionery research. There are opportunities for Nestlé to accommodate more staff — including apprentices and PhD graduates.
A key part of the brief to consulting engineer Silcock Leedham was to minimise environmental impact using energy-efficiency building-services systems. The specification of the lighting and control played a significant role in meeting this brief.
The suspended Cirrus luminaires have been supplied in two configurations. There are standalone fittings using two 28 W T5 lamps or in continuous rows of two to six fittings each with two 54 W T5 lamps.
In the refurbished office areas, Illusion recessed louvre luminaires with 40 l/s air-handling capability have been installed.
