NG Bailey to service university building

NG Bailey
An inspiring building for tomorrow’s engineers — this development at the University of Sheffield is due for completion in August 2015.

NG Bailey has won a £12.5 million contract to provide the M&E services for this energy-efficient undergraduate teaching facility at the University of Sheffield’s Faculty of Engineering. The 6-story building on the university’s Jessop East site will include lecture theatres, laboratories and various flexible teaching rooms. Main contractor is Balfour Beatty.

The contact covers all M&E services — including ventilation and cooling systems, offsite-manufactured risers and pipework skid modules within the plant rooms.

NG Bailey’s offsite manufacture division produced a scale model demonstrating an innovative solution to the prefabricated risers at tender stage.

The company’s IT department will also be involved, providing the infrastructure cabling for a BMS incorporating smart building technology.

Ken Lilley, director of estates and facilities management at the university, said, ‘This was a fantastic opportunity to underpin the university’s commitment to making significant reductions to its carbon footprint through the development of modern and energy-efficient buildings.’

An app will enable students to see in real time the consumption of electricity, heating, water and lighting.

Mike Darling, joint managing director of NG Bailey’s engineering division, says, ‘Our proactive design approach and our ability to integrate the latest technology and materials into the scheme will ensure the whole-life cost of plant and equipment is reduced.’
