Energy performance of in-roof solar PV
Research carried out by Viridian Solar and the engineering department at the University of Cambridge has shown that the energy yield of solar PV integrated into a roof is only 3% less than a rack mounted above a pitched roof. The research covers 12 months of UK weather and was carried out against the background of it being common knowledge that the performance of solar PV reduces as temperatures rise.
Stuart Elmes, CEO of Viridian Solar, comments, ‘Clearly for some customers the extra return on investment due to energy yield will matter, but for many customers, minimising the visual impact on their building will be more important. As an industry, at least we now have the facts to present to potential customers so that they can make an educated choice.’
