BT beats cold draughts

JS Air Curtains, revolving door
Neatly solving the problem of cold draughts in the entrance hall of BT’s global headquarters is this air-curtain installation by JS Air Curtains and Blue Chyp.

This custom solution for the entrance to BT’s global headquarters in London comprises two Zen air curtains from JS Air Curtains and a Rotowind revolving-door air curtain. The air-curtain system for the building in Newgate Street was designed by entrance specialist Blue Chyp to overcome the problem of draughts.

Adam Pressland, director at Blue Chyp, explained, ‘The reception area had been suffering from draughts, creating an uncomfortably cold internal temperature. However, BT needed an air curtain that provided protection across both pass doors and the main revolving door but didn’t detract from the original architecture.

‘We achieved this by creating a counter-balanced mounting solution for the two pass-door air curtains that removed the need for any suspension system attached to the ceiling or facia. The units were supported by a central frame across the top of the door. Matching colours to the existing interior and custom-made covers for the revolving-door air curtain produced a seamless design.’

There is a Rotowind air curtain for the revolving door, which can act as a low-speed fan and force a mass of cold air into a room with each rotation. The main body of the air curtain is mounted above the door, with curved outlets creating a barrier around the inner opening of the doorway. Each unit is created to exactly match the curvature of the specific model of revolving door.
