LJJ wins £4.2 million M&E contract

Building-services specialist LJJ has been awarded a £4.2 million project to design and install a Cat A M&E installation at plot C of Farnborough Business Park by main contractor Kier. The 32-week programme starts late in 2014 for completion in spring 2015. The speculative office development designed by ESA architects comprises two 4-storey buildings with a combined internal areas of 10 000 m2.

LJJ has designed the electrical installation of offer maximum flexibility for future tenants, with ample spare capacity being provided in office-area sub-distribution for small-power and data installation to enable occupiers to satisfy their own Cat B fit-out requirements.

Carl Dowling, design manager at Kier, says, ‘Developers are increasingly looking for ways to manage costs and reduce waste on their schemes. Traditionally the need to rip our the Cat A installation to accommodate the occupier’s Cat B requirements has been a significant source of waste.

‘This project demonstrates that waste can be avoided simply by streamlining Cat A fit-out in the tenanted areas, while ensuring the public areas have the M&E infrastructure that occupiers expect.’
