School learns the lessons of integrated building systems

School
In a drive towards greater efficiency in its schools, Glasgow City Council has invested in Schneider Electric’s Transparent Integrated Building System for its newly built Haghill Primary School.
The intelligent integration of services in the new Haghill Primary School & Community Sports Centre in Glasgow is generating substantial energy savings. This is one of the first new schools to be built as part of a programme of work involving over 200 new and refurbished schools. At the start of the Haghill project, Robert Gordon, contracts manager for Glasgow City Council’s building-services department, investigated the market for a building system that would effectively integrate all services. He was looking for a BMS that would cater for electrical distribution, lighting control, security, air conditioning, heating and ventilation. The solution chosen was Schneider Electric’s Transparent Building Integrated Systems offer. The control room has a single human–machine interface from the Telemecanique brand of Schneider Electric. From this touch screen, the facilities-management team can tell exactly what is happening around the building and control all services. The team can pinpoint the exact amount of energy being used in specific areas of the building and project where savings are being made. A flashing red light alerts the team to problems. The huge financial saving on heating and ventilation are achieved by having local sensors in all communal areas. If a room is vacated, the system automatically turns off the lights and turns them on again when someone walks in. www.schneider.co.uk
