Cinema energy savings are not left on the cutting-room floor

Energy savings in excess of 20% are being achieved by over 20 cinemas in the Vue multiplex chain with the help of BG Energy Solutions. Work included the installation of voltage optimisers (VOs) and variable-speed drives, with a payback ranging from 24 to 36 months.

Duncan Biggins, managing director of BG Energy Solutions, says, ‘We look after mover than 70 Vue sites, and each one now has voltage optimisation on the incoming mains and variable-speed drives on all air-handling units — more than 1200 in total.

Across the Vue sites, we must have encountered up to 10 different control systems, With this in mind, we have to take into account how each site operates so that the VSDs are correctly integrated with the controls and operation of the plant.’
