5-star hotel has 5-star energy efficiency

M&E contractor, LJJ

M&E contractor LJJ has completed a £5 million project involving electrical services for Firmdale’s 5-star boutique hotel in London. There are 91 guest rooms and suites, 24 luxury apartments, 13 retail units, a restaurants three bars, a gym, a 176-seat/theatre and a roof garden. An original 1950s bowling alley has been imported from Texas and refurbished to create an authentic retro-bowling experience.

The hotel has a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and includes a wide-ranging energy-efficiency specification, including CHP plant and solar PV.

A complex element of the project was the fire-alarm system, which was programmed to provide wide-ranging cause-and-effect scenarios to maximise safety and comply with stringent Westminster fire regulations.

LJJ installed and programmed the lighting, with a Philips control system for front of house and external areas. Each guest room has its own lighting control system. The apartments have home-automation systems. Lighting systems in back-of-house areas have PIR controls for energy efficiency.
