Biomass boilers serve warm-air heaters

Powrmatic, space heating, biomass boiler, renewable energy
Hot water for Powrmatic warm-air heaters in a scaffolding training centre is provided by biomass boilers.

A biomass boiler supplied the hot-water coils in Powrmatic suspended warm-air heaters in the training centre for scaffolders of LTC Training in Plymouth. Powrmatic also supplied destratification fans. The biomass heating system was specified and installed by renewable-energy specialist FairEnergy of Exeter.

LTC offers over 40 courses for access training in its 500 m2 purpose-built scaffolding training centre. With a roof height of over 10 m and metal-clad construction, was proving uncomfortably cold for trainees during the winter, so the company decided to install a heating system. LTC also decided to use as fuel the offcuts from scaffold boards that had been repaired.

The two 60 kW log boilers supply hot water to three MDA suspended hot water heaters. Heat is distributed by teh axial fans.

Two CECx destratification fans prevent hot air accumulating at the top of the building. These fans can also improve air circulation in the summer.

The boilers were installed in a new plant room next to the building.
