Independent school enrols more boilers from Keston

Keston, boiler, space heating

Three Keston boilers with a combined output of 165 kW have been installed at Lancing College in West Sussex as part of a refurbishment project to separate an accommodation block from the central boiler room over 50 m away. This independent boarding and day school provides education for boys and girls aged 13 to 18.

The new boilers have been installed in Gibbs House, which provides boarding facilities for 650 boys. The building is over 170 years old.

The old boilers were unreliable and inefficient. In addition, the long external pipe run resulted in excessive heat loss, as did the 5 in cast-iron pipework delivering hot water to the radiators in the building.

The new heat-only boilers were installed on Keston’s frame and header kit, which was delivered in prefabricated modules that were assembled on site by heating engineer Chris Smith. The system was installed in a new plant room in the building, eradicating the need for a long pipe run, and serves 60 radiators.

About 180 m of new 67 mm copper piping runs along 1.2 m-high tunnels located throughout the buildings.

This latest installation brings to around 30 the number of Keston Boilers installed throughout the college.
