Morley-IAS helps protect the Humber Bridge
A project to upgrade the fire-detection control panels and graphics system in the substations that are vital for the operation of the Humber Bridge was based on equipment from Morley-IAS by Honeywell. The work was carried out by Beverley-based Fire Protection Supplies, which has been involved with the bridge over a number of years. This upgrade involved installed ZX products and the Visualeyez graphics workstation.
The bridge operates a toll system to help fund the maintenance programmes and the infrastructure required for its operation.
The substations contain a plethora of mechanical and electrical plant and machinery.
John Williams of the Humber Bridge explains, ‘We rely heavily on a combination of technology and people to ensure that the bridge operates as it should 24 hours a day. Having a state-of-the-art fire-detection system is therefore a vital part of its infrastructure.’
Seven panels were replaced overall. They are in a variety of locations, including the administration offices where a central control room that contains all the servers and IT-related technology is used to ensure that everything is running smoothly. The panels have been configured to report back to a new Visualeyez graphics workstation which presents alarm information in a simple and user-friendly way to enable rapid comprehension of the situation.
Visualeyez can also record and analyse alarm and non-alarm events, helping to plan maintenance and strategies to prevent false alarms.
