Water heaters deliver winning performance for sports centre

Up to 40 people can take showers at the same time at Marley Activities & Coaching Centre in Keighley, with instantaneous hot water provided by 36 wall-mounted water heaters from Andrews. Such is the capability of these continuous-flow water heaters, that a continuous throughput of 130 people can use the 72 showers within 10 minutes. Bradford MDC opted for two Suresport specialist prefabricated buildings made by Thurston Building Systems to provide replacement changing and amenity requirements. One building provides facilities for 10 teams, and the other is for eight teams. There are separate areas for match officials, and the team bays have their own showers and drying area. Hot water for all 72 shower heads is generated by WSC44 continuous-flow water heaters with heat outputs of 44 kW and capable of delivering 18 l/min at 35 K temperature rise. There are nine groups of four heaters, each serving eight shower heads, linked with PAM manifolds. The temperature of the delivered hot water is controlled by modulating the burner in response to the incoming water flow and temperature. The temperature of the hot water is controlled to ±1 K. These water heaters are the size of a small suitcase and are installed in a series of small plant rooms, each containing two groups of four heaters.
