Control system minimises use of lighting

To ensure lighting is on only when necessary, Furness Green Partnership specified a Rapid lighting control system from CP Electronics for a speculative office development at 16-20 North Audley Street in central London. This fully addressable system covers the five storeys of office space and the basement. It is controlled by passive infra-red (PIR) sensors and typically switches on luminaires in groups of eight fittings. It was installed by MITIE Engineering Services. Corridor lighting is turned on to suit the office lighting in use, ensuring that exit routes are lit if a floor is occupied. When the floor is finally vacated, the corridor lighting is turned off 15 minutes after the last PIR times out. All settings can be programmed to the client’s requirements. The Rapid system can be set up to suit the office layout and working patterns of individual clients without having to change the hard wiring. The system can also be linked to a central computer, with a graphical interface so that changes to lighting can be made and energy consumption monitored.
