Merlin helps keep TNT’s big orange lorries running

Merlin
As part of the servicing routine provided by Merlin Power Management for TNT UK’s standby generators, they are run under a wide range of simulated conditions using this mobile load bank.
The contract to service standby generators at 28 sites of TNT UK has been awarded to Merlin Power Management. TNT is a European market leader in global express, logistics and international mail services and is acutely aware of the importance of its standby generators always starting if the power fails. TNT’s generators support all essential services at its depots — including lighting, telephones and IT equipment. Merlin has also been contracted to carry out extensive load testing of each generator using its variable-load bank, which enables a standby-power system to be tested under various simulated load conditions to verify its overall reliability and ability to perform. When the load bank is used to test a standby generator, the whole system is tested to maximum capacity, and the ability of the engines to deliver the required output over an extended period is confirmed. Such test also removes any build-up of carbon deposits from the pistons, engine casing and exhaust systems. The alternator and control system are also checked, and the voltage and frequency are monitored to check the output is within specification.
