For speed of installation, Durapipe’s Wefatherm pipework system has been used for potable water in the City Lofts residential development at Salford Quays.
Prefabricated pipework modules using Durapipe’s Wefatherm pipework are among a range of pipe and fittings from Durapipe UK being installed in a residential development in Manchester’s Salford Quays. The City Lofts project designed by architects Conran & Partners comprises two buildings, one 19 storeys high and the other nine storeys high. Wefatherm pipework in sizes from 32 to 160 mm was chosen by contractor Strong Building Services for the boosted cold-water distribution systems that provide potable water for all the apartments. The pipework system runs from a cold-water tank in the basement of the taller building and was specified for its fast installation capabilities. Bob Knight, project manager with Strong Building Services, was responsible for recommending this pipework. He explains, ‘We originally considered using copper, but because of the speed and ease of installation, we decided on sourcing a plastic alternative and eventually chose Wefatherm.’ City Lofts is completely sold out and due for completion in the middle of this year.
