GSHPs reduce heating bills by 60% for sports and community centre

Danfoss Heat Pumps, formerly ECO Heat Pumps, is helping Woolsery Sports & Community Centre in Devon reduce its heating bills by over 60% with the installation of ground-source heat pumps — representing a saving of nearly £2500 a year. The centre was built in 2000 with oil-fired heating, owing to the low price of oil at the time. The new heat-pump installation is accompanied by the fitting of wind turbines and PV solar panels on the roof, the electricity from which is used to power the heat pump. The electrical consumption of the heat pump is small, so electricity is also available for the lighting, but most of it is fed into the National Grid. The heat-pump installation was supported by a grant from the second phase of the Low Carbon Buildings Programme covering 35% of the total installation costs.
