Air-conditioning distributor Oceanair is acquired by investment group

Air-conditioning distributor Oceanair Distribution, has been acquired by an investment group for an undisclosed sump. The deal does not affect Oceanair (UK), the Nottingham-based distributor, which continues as a separate stand-alone company. Following the sale, Bob Cowlard, owner and managing director of Oceanair Distribution, has left the company to take up a senior position as business planning manager with Sanyo’s air-conditioning business. His responsibilities include business strategy and product development. Oceanair Distribution, which handles Sanyo, LG and Fujitsu equipment is now part of Cripps Trust Corporation, under the day-to-day management of the existing senior team. Richard Tyson becomes managing director, Giles Pratt sales director and David Livingstone operations director. Bob Cowlard says, ‘I have enjoyed building the business tremendously over the past two years. ‘It has confirmed my long-held belief in the importance of the distributor in adding value for the customer. I take that commitment back with me to support Sanyo’s excellent network of distributors in developing their businesses to the benefit of all. ‘My return to Sanyo in this new position is a great opportunity for me personally, and I am excited about the challenge. I am looking forward to helping to take the company forward.’ Oceanair Distribution has grown solidly in recent years. From its original base in Horsham, it has expanded to Bristol — the location of its state-of-the-art training centre. The company’s recent initiative with Calor Gas for the roll-out of LPG-powered heat-pump chillers is reported to be bearing fruit. These systems are aimed at applications where electrical power is limited and mains gas unavailable. They have been specified in a number of high-profile applications.
