Dining out on KNX

Adding to the homeliness and control of Rick Stein’s Prospect House in Padstow is the application of KNX technology for a wide range of control applications.
Rick Stein’s recently opened Prospect House hotel in Padstow combines seaside luxury with cutting-edge building intelligence. KNX technology has been used to control windows and blinds, wet underfloor heating and electrical-tile warming in the bathrooms. Each room also has multiple lighting zones consisting of energy-efficient LED luminaires, where specific areas can be scene set to create functional and atmospheric lighting modes. All these features can be controlled by guests from a wall-mounted touch screen with icons that are simple to use. The KNX-based system also adds to safety, as systems integrator Andromeda Telematics has established communication with the fire and intruder alarm systems. Intelligent movement sensors in the entrance hall and landing maintain a safe lighting level in the stairwell with occupancy. These sensors also help save energy. A multi-channel photocell on external facade control lights according to lux levels to save energy during daylight hours.
