Hamworthy boilers heat the Royal Institution
Modern Hamworthy boilers have provided direct replacement for the previous boilers at the Royal Institution in London.
As part of the £22 million refurbishment of the Royal Institution of Great Britain in London, space heating is provided by three Hamworthy Purewell VariHeat 180 kW condensing boilers.
Founded in 1799, the Royal Institution has built a reputation for excellent lectures, cutting-edge science and science communication. The boilers were specified by Faber Maunsell for their small size and resilient performance, particularly as the plant room is narrow. The building is heated using radiators and fan-coil units.
Designed as a direct replacement for cast-iron atmospheric boilers, the Purewell VariHeat occupies the same space as its predecessors, but with 50% more output and efficiencies of up to 108% for condensing models.
