Advanced Electronics fire panels minimise false alarms

Advanced electronics
False fire alarms in this student accommodation in Sheffield are minimised by the installation of Advanced Electronics intelligent fire-alarm control panels.

As part of the conversion of a 19th century building in Sheffield to provide student accommodation, Advanced Electronics’ intelligent fire-alarm control panels have been installed.

The system has been designed and installed as to combat nuisance alarms in student accommodation. There are 20 separate apartments, and each bedroom has its own multi-sensor and sounder. Other areas have heat detectors and optical smoke detectors.

To reduce false alarms, an alarm in a particular room only activates the local sounder for two minutes. If no further alarms are raised, the control panel clears and resets that fire detector and logs the incident. If another detector goes into alarm during that two minutes, a full evacuation is initiated.

A full evacuation is automatically triggered by the operation of a manual call point or smoke being detected on an escape route.
