SuperFlo keeps vital data cool
To overcome site constraints and achieve the installation speeds required for the refurbishment of a data centre in Milton Keynes, Durapipe SuperFlo pipework has been installed to distribute chilled water to provide cooling for the two data floors.
Originally purpose built for a leading European bank last year, the building needed a complete overhaul and refit of all interior and exterior systems for the new owner — a principal data group specialising in IT solutions, including rack space, data suites, IP networks, dedicated servers and technical services. The site is now one of very few carrier-neutral data centres in the UK, with 2300 m2 of space.
Contractor Cfes designed and installed a new cooling system for the rack storage systems.
Durapipe SuperFlo pipework in sizes up to 225 mm carries chilled water from the 1 MW central chiller plant to 125 kW close-control downflow units.
John Davies, operations manager with Cfes explains, ‘This data-centre project called for a reliable and durable pipework solution. Site constraints and the fast-track nature of the programme precluded the use of conventional steel piping systems. The simple solvent welding jointing technique of SuperFlo offered the ideal solution for all our needs, providing significant time and cost savings throughout the installation process. As a company, we were relatively new to the use of the SuperFlo system. Throughout the installation process, we continued to receive excellent on-and off-site technical support from Durapipe.’
