Air conditioning provides heat source for hot water
The first installation of Daikin UK’s combined VRVIII/heat recovery/hot-water system is in the London headquarters of a large international technology. The system combines VRVIII heat-recovery air conditioning with the provision of domestic hot water via special hot-water modules. It was engineered and installed by Airtech Air Conditioning Services and effectively supplies DHW at no cost.
As part of the upgrading of the building services, the toilet core was remodelled, with more toilets and the addition of shower facilities.
Five 8 kW hot-water modules are installed in the central-core mechanical riser, one to each VRVIII loop. Heat from the loops is transferred to 300 l hot-water cylinders that serve toilets, washing, shower and break-out facilities. The cylinder temperature is maintained at 45°C with a start-up time of 45 min. An electric booster heater in the upper section of each cylinder provides back-up and also raises the water temperature to 65°C to control legionella.
