Rhoss takes a more efficient approach to controlling chillers and heat pumps

Rhoss is now integrating as standard its Adaptive Function Plus predictive control system into its range of multi-scroll compressors and heat pumps. Using patented predictive control, the AFP system matches multi-scroll compressor operation to actual working conditions, reducing the energy consumption of chillers and heat pumps by up to 36% in winter mode and 18% in summer mode. Rhoss is represented in the UK by Coolmation Group.

Instead of using return-water temperature as the basis for control, AFP uses information from the load profile to control flow temperature according to load demands by managing the operation of each compressor. Maximising flow temperature in chiller mode can reduce energy consumption by 18%. Similarly, minimising flow temperature in heat-pump mode can reduce energy consumption by up to 36%.

AFP also has a ‘virtual tank’ function, so chiller and heat pump can operate with significantly less water — as little as 2 l/kW. In some cases, there will be no need for a buffer tank — or it can be made smaller.
