Polypipe Terrain’s end-of-the-pier show

Polypipe Terrain, soil, waste, drainage, plastic
Tucked away under the boardwalk of the rebuilt Grand Pier at Weston-super-Mare is Polypipe Terrain plastic soil and waste drainage.

To cope with the severe environmental conditions that soil and waste pipes on the rebuilt Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare are exposed to, Polypipe Terrain solvent-welded plastic pipes and fittings have been installed. The piping system carries waste from the pier’s holding tank and under the boardwalk to the main seafront drains.

Andy Benden of Polypipe Terrain explains, ‘Once the system was installed, there would be no easy access to it if any problems arose, so it was vital that a thoroughly proven and reliable system was chosen. Given the unusual location, the system’s ability to withstand the effects of the harsh marine environment over a long period was also crucial.’

The company visited the site to advise on the most effective system and to give guidance on details such as expansion and contraction joints.

Other benefits of the system were its light weight and ease of installation.
