Thousands of pound a year are being saved at the divisional headquarters of Tayside Police with the installation of a new DHW system.

Annual energy savings of up to £5000 a year are expected by Tayside Police following the installation of a gas-fired water heaters and solar-water-heating package from Andrews Water Heaters, including new controls. This refurbishment project was carried out in two stages at the divisional headquarters in Perth.

Tayside Police is proactive in its requirement for energy efficiency and demanded a sustainable system to replaced existing DHW equipment comprising two large calorifiers served by the three space-heating boilers. The new system was designed by Elders Consulting Engineers.

The project was spread over two budget years. The first stage was to install the MAXXflo gas-fired storage water heater, sized to replace the two large calorifiers. One calorifier was removed so the water heater could be installed, then the other calorifier was removed.

In the second phase, a 900 l solar preheat cylinder and other equipment in the solar package were installed next to the water heater and connected to seven solar collector panels on the roof of the roof of the cell block.

The MAXXflo range of gas-fired storage water heaters has won the Queen’s Award for Innovation for its energy-saving capabilities.
