Stokvis supplies solar-thermal system for The Green House hotel
One of the first installations of the Stokvis Energy Systems high-performance solar-thermal system is a new hotel created through the eco-refurbishment of a Grade 2 listed property in Bournemouth. The Green House is described by its architects Archipeleco as a ‘deep-green boutique’ hotel. Design features include the selection of sustainable and, wherever possible, local materials. Heating and hot-water requirements, and some power requirements, are met by a CHP unit plus the solar panels on the roof.
M&E consultant for the £5 million regeneration of this building was BEP Services Engineers.
Five Ecotube evacuated-tube panels were supplied to M&E contractor Wessex Building Services and linked to a 1000 l single-coil solar-thermal vessel.
The size of the array was limited by considerations relating to the building’s heritage and the local authority’s stipulation that it should not be visible from street level.
Stokvis also supplied an Econoflame R6000 modulating condensing and ultra-low NOx boiler for back up the CHP plant. It was fitted along with a 300 l buffer vessel and Econoplate packaged plate heat exchanger to ensure peak demand for hot water from guest bedrooms could always be met.
