Ener-G devises smaller and lighter CHP solution for new Tesco stores

Ener-G, CHP
40% smaller and much lighter than containerised CHP units is the Universal packaged developed by Ener-G for new Tesco stores.

Ener-G has worked with Tesco to develop a CHP solution for its new-store programme that is smaller and lighter than traditional large containerised CHP systems. The outcome is a CHP system packed into an aesthetically appealing weatherproof enclosure that is about 40% smaller, 3.5 t lighter and 5 dB(A) quieter than a containerised solution.

CHP is a cornerstone of sustainable energy performance at Tesco’s new stores, and rigorous monitoring has demonstrated impressive cost and carbon reduction. The new Ener-G Universal CHP system has been introduced to 27 UK stores so far.

‘We constantly strive to reduce our carbon footprint, and the new Universal CHP system is key to that goal,’ said Dean Pearmain, group buying manager (renewable energy initiatives — corporate purchasing) with Tesco Stores. ‘We are very proud to have inspired this UK innovation that helps us save valuable space and look attractive. It comes fully packaged for fast installation and connection to our utilities, which is a major advantage when you have tight store-opening deadlines to meet.’
